Favorite Doughnuts - Vintage Recipe

This is a handwritten copy of the recipe.  I would guess it is close to 80 years old or older.  I have a copy of it mod podged on this great wooden frame box and keep it hanging in the kitchen.  Thanks for hosting this vintage recipe party.  I'm excited to be a part of it.

Recipe as written:  Favorite Doughnuts

Beat thoroughly:
4 egg yolks (2 whole eggs)

Beat in:
1 cup sugar
2 tbls. soft shortening

Stir in:
3/4 cup thick buttermilk or sour milk
3 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Turn onto lightly flour board.  Knead 5 or 6 times.  Roll out 1/3 inch thick.  Let rest 20 minutes.  Cut with doughnut cutter.  Fry in hot fat until brown.  Serve plain, sugared or glazed.

Thank you for participating Lanell. What a great vintage recipe. It is so nice that you have honored this recipe by framing it. It sounds delicious too. I've added your link to the weekly post.
